Big Ben Broken Ribs in Super Bowl???

SI.com has reported that Pittsburgh Steelers’ Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had two broken ribs in their 27-23 super bowl win against the Arizona Cardinals. Apparently the breaks did not show up in x-rays but did appear in an MRI he had earlier. Luckily Ben did not suffer any big hits during the game to aggravate any injury he may have had, allowing Ben to lead the Steelers on a 78 yard drive the ended in a six yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the last 35 seconds to secure their victory.
It is uncertain whether the claims of the injury are true. There wasn’t any mention of it during the post game interview and the NFL won’t require an MRI until April when the Steelers resume their off season training, and Ben had previously exaggerated or misstated injuries in the past.

Taylor To Become A Redskin

Former "Dancing With the Stars" competitor and Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor is bound for Washington to join the Redskins. This trade was made after Daniels suffered a season-ending knee injury Sunday in the 1st day of training camp. Taylor was traded for a 2009 2nd round draft pick and a 2010 6th round pick. This trade may have been easy for the Dolphins since Taylor fell out of favor with the 1-15 team after deciding to do "Dancing" rather than train with the team. Though the Dolphins have not confirmed this trade even after the Redskins announced it.
Executive Vice President Vinny Cerrato had this to say about the trade, "We're fortunate there was a guy with that caliber on the market when somebody got hurt. Normally, in most years, there's not a guy of that caliber on the market."
Taylor, 33, has played 11 seasons with the NFL, and started every game for the past 8 years. Last year he was the only Dolphin to make the Pro-Bowl. It has been said that Taylor only plans on playing 1 more season with the NFL and then pursuing an acting career in Hollywood. He still has 2 years left on his contract, and many think he will play more than just 1 more season.

2008 Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon

This weekend I was flipping through the channels and came across this event on TV. I was very happy to see a televised triathlon, and as a person who is training for their first marathon, I had to watch it and was amazed by the endurance of each and every athlete out there.

The Course:

1.5 mile swim between the San Francisco Piers and Alcatraz Island. Many swimmers needed to be rescued because this was such a difficult swim.

Their was a 1 mile warm up run from the swim to the transition area to get their bikes at Marina Green. Once on their bikes they had an 18 mile bike ride which was an out and back.

The last leg of the event was an 8 mile run to Baker Beach that included running up the sand steps (400 steps up a very verticle incline).

This year we had repeat victories for both the men (Andy Potts 2:01:57) and women (Leanda Cave)

Home Run Derby

Last night the last home run Derby to happen at Yankee Stadium took place. In the first round, Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers got a whopping 28 Home Runs, a singe-set record. Others to make the semi finals include: Ryan Braun of the Brewers, Lance Berkman of the Houston Astros, and Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins. Making it into the finals we had Josh Hamilton and Justin Morneau. The winner was Justin Morneau.

What I learned listening to ESPN Radio...

Yesterday (July 7th, 2008) I learned that there is an American Mustache Institute while listening to Scott Van Pelt on ESPN radio all because he jokingly said a certain baseball player should be voted into the All-Star Game due to his stache. Who knew such a place existed, and they have 10 emplyees. Check out their website.

The Sweet Sixteen is upon us. How are the brackets going? Mine, not so well. And listening to Mike Tirico show, only 2 people have all their sweet sixteen teams left. In my pool I only have 8 teams left, needless to say, I am not doing well. There have been some good games so far. I have been fortunate enought to catch a few. I watched Duke squeeze out their one win, the Badgers stomp Kansas state, and Marquette's heartbreaking defeat against Stanford. The games coming this weekend should bring some more excitement!

Game 1, 2007 World Series

The Rockies sure looked rusty in their first outing in Boston for the 2007 World Series. They were out pitched with Josh Beckett striking out the first four batters. By the end of the 5th inning, the Red Sox were winning 13-1, which was the final score. Definitely not a good showing for the underdogs. Too bad, I hope they can come back and save face in this series. The main question to be asked is was their 8 game layover just too much? It appeared to be so. Maybe after that game they will be warmed up and come back to win some!

Underdog?

With the World Series just around the corner, who do we root for, who will win. Will it be the Boston Red Sox? Or will it be the Colorado Rockies?

Many our jumping on the underdog bandwagon with the Colorado Rockies, and there fairy tale story. Wound't it be great if they could win? And beat a power house like the Boston Red Sox?

Can't wait until this story enters its final chapters Wednesday night. Should be a story to remember.
